Our Quiet Mess

by | Dec 20, 2025

For years, our annual Solstice event has been a highlight of the year—a time to gather, honour the return of the light, and share in a communal exhale.

But this year, when we began organizing the event, something felt different.

We went back and forth for weeks. The more we tried to plan our way through, the more we realized the energy was off. Despite our desire to gather, the “pull to pause” was stronger.

Now that Solstice is actually here, the reason has become bone-deep clear.

Right now, our “inner sanctuary” looks like a construction zone. Our main floor is in total disarray from an unplanned renovation. Organizing a succession of contractors at Christmas is a stress test we wish on no one.

On top of the physical chaos, this week brought a very sad loss in our family, leaving everyone emotionally and physically spent.

To top it off, we have both been exposed to multiple renovation chemicals—and we need to cleanse that sh*# out!

What Solstice Teaches Us

In the Northern Hemisphere, today is the shortest day and the longest night of the year. Nature isn’t trying to produce anything right now—it’s drawing inward and cocooning.

Even at a busy time of year, there are always ways to slow down and pause.

So this is a gentle reminder that you don’t need anyone’s permission to:

  • Leave the party early
  • Take 5 minutes to breathe in the dark before the house wakes up
  • Wrap yourself in a cozy blanket with a cup of tea and stare out the window, reminding yourself of all the things you’re grateful for
  • Roll around on your yoga mat with a soothing playlist, following the impulse to move organically—for no other reason than your own pleasure

We’re thinking of you all and sending so much love and peace. 🕯️

From our quiet, messy home to yours,

Tamika & Carolyn

Oh how I know this feeling of needing to draw inward while the chaos surrounds me! We are still renovating 3 years in our new home 😬 This Christmas was set to begin on the 15th but the grand babies have been sick. So, it has offered me a time to pause, breathe and be still.

My condolences on your family’s loss. May you all find moments of joy and peace as you navigate through the grieving process.

I miss you ladies and think of you often!
