It always feels like a warm hug when I’m in the presence of this episode’s guest, Bija (Kerri) Repta and I’m sure you’ll feel it too. Bija leads DevaTree’s Faculty Mentored Program, Down Dogs & Doshas: An Integrated Approach to Ayurveda & Yoga.

Episode 004: In this episode, we get right into Ayurveda and the Doshas and how we can harness the properties of our elemental make-up to ease our day-to-day and move through life in a more harmonious way. Bija not only gives us practical ways to implement the Dosha’s into our lives right now, but she reflects on the personal changes she’s witnessed in herself and in her relationships with others. It was fascinating to hear her talk about how the dosha’s can help us navigate conflict with co-workers and loved ones!

We learn that we’re always in a state of balancing—and through discovering our prominent Doshas we can have a deeper understanding of our physical, emotional and spiritual bodies. With this understanding, we can begin to offer ourselves and others forgiveness, compassion, and embrace who we truly are.

Key Takeaways:

  • How Ayurveda is a lifestyle of embracing who we are, and how it can help us understand ourselves and others.
  • The characteristics of the 3 doshas, and how to discover your dominant dosha(s).
  • Why ayurveda is often called a “sister-science” to yoga.
  • How doshas can be applied to the seasons, the time of day, and the current season of your life. How to use the doshas to bring yourself back to balance.
  • How to balance ourselves by following the rhythms of nature. Why protecting our peace is even more important in the heat of summer!
  • How Ayurveda has impacted Bija’s relationship with herself and how it’s helped her become more forgiving and compassionate with herself.
  • How understanding Ayurvedic practices has impacted her relationship with co-workers, friends, and even her own children.
  • Ayurvedic prevention techniques that help avoid heighted states of stress and irritability.
  • How Bija let go of her perfectionist tendencies, realizing it was coming from a feeling of lack, and always having something to prove.
  • How the DevaTree community helped her overcome the fear of not being enough and gave her the courage to say YES to things that truly bring her joy.
